General Dynamics Electric Boat is conducting maintenance, repair, alterations, testing and other activities on USS Delaware during its scheduled post-delivery work period. The company was awarded a $15.02 million contract modification by the DoD on 8 March to begin the process. Work will be performed in Groton, Connecticut, and is expected to be completed by July 2021. USS Delaware became the 18th Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarine (and the final boat in the Block III design) to enter service with the USN when it was commissioned in April 2020. The Virginia class is designed to perform a range of key functions including ASW, ASuW, ISR, mine warfare and the transportation of special operations forces.
